HOW SOON WILL MY MEMORY FADE

HOW SOON WILL MY MEMORY FADE
We all got guns
We all got weapons
We are all strong
We all know how to fight
We are all tough
We are all willing to die
What separates us
How are we different
We are so much the same
Yet all butchering, maiming and killing each other
Really what separates us
Are we the enemy of man
Or is it another
Is this simply another way to embrace suicide
Without calling it such
Are we all in denial
Is it not honorable to die fighting
The question is for what
Do we fight simply to die
Do we fight simply to kill
Devoid of justification
Does a just reason exist
We are the same
Yet we are enemies
Yet we cull traces of a more vile common enemy
Not thee or I
Thou shall not kill
God’s commandment
One way ticket to hell
The things we do
May the Lord have mercy upon us

THE MAN IN THE CARDBOARD BOX
Posted by Darnell on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 3:35pm
THE MAN IN THE CARDBOARD BOX
We shy away from
What is it?
What is it?
We run away from
What is it?
We try to avoid thinking
Trying to stave off death
Even the very thought of
What if we have no money?
What if we have no roof over our heads?
What if our friends and family abandon us?
Left simply with our faith in God
The clothes on our back and a cardboard box
Have the doctrines of prosperity and vanity
Moved us so far
We no longer view physical death as an inevitability?
(Rapture aside)
The fear of losing
Has grown worse than losing
Let it go
Rid ourselves of it
Forgetting the past
(Except for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ)
Not looking forward to the future
(Except for the promise and reality of Salvation)
Living in the moment
Truly the moment is where we live
Yet we try to avoid the moment
I was
Or
I will be
Instead of
I am
Somewhere else
Instead of here
Is the here and now
Such a horrid space and time
That we always need to escape?
Trusting the Lord
(The Lord is my Shepherd)
No need to fear
Fear of abandonment, poverty, betrayal, pain...!
Let it go
Can we truly lose
That which we choose not to value?
Trust in Christ
Legal tender departs
Human relationships die, human institutions collapse, human justice fails
What if the banks crash
What if no human loves us?
What if we got this or that disease?
What if these things happen?
What if we’re on the streets?
Sleeping in cardboard boxes
If we surrendered our hearts to Christ
The Lord would be with us
What if we died physically?
We would be with
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
In Christ Jesus we should take comfort and not fret
Take comfort in Christ Jesus

‘If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou has set up”. Daniel 3: 17-18.

WADS OF CASH
Posted by Darnell on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 10:54pm
WADS OF CASH
Love our God
Love our friends
Love our enemies
Love our selves
She wants money
She wants a Porsche
She wants a big home with a walk in closet
She says I’m too ghetto
No appreciation for the finer things
She knows not the best things are free
Of which she fails to see
She enjoys Cancun in June
I am still here
With only God to fear
I’ve already lost everything man may take
Letting go
A gift from Christ
Which I cherish
Wish my only decisions were
Which package of gummi bears to open first
The super sour or regular
What time to go to the beach
What a world it would be

FOR LILLY 34 EVENING
Posted by Darnell on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 1:22am
FOR LILLY 34 EVENING
A wooden house
The wood demon’s torture
Will come sweetly and last forever
She will delight in his torture
The staleness of her closet
Her silk White slips
Her Black lingerie
The glow on her face
From her Black and White TV set
As she peers in from the hall
Tiredly raise I my head
Too tired to speak I just perceive
She knocks twice and walks down the hall
Blue jeans and a white blouse tonight
The epitome
Of femininity
Her black hair cut short
She loves to swim at night
Tonight was different though
Her life overtakes her
She prepares to study with chocolate milk
The test is no longer of concern
She tears her books
What does it all mean?
Is there no more? She says
Culmination of present life choices
Is it really so horrible?
The terror of life’s actuality
Concern on the staircase
Her head delirious
As she runs through the house
Searching
Searching
Searching
She runs out into the rain
She cries and then she laughs
As lightning reflects in her eyes
Quietness fills her heart and voice
Life as with death is never distant
She says
Even the prettiest rose has a thorn
She says
Raindrops roll down her face
She rubs her hair and twirls
I know now Thank You
She says
As she looks towards the sky
She comes back in
With a loving grin
Still tired she laughs at me
And sits by the fire
Death as with true love is never distant
She exclaims!
I’m devoted to her thoughts
As she removes her brown boots
To reveal her green socks

REPENTANCE

REPENTANCE
My darkness bleeds out of me
Like a wound to the heart
Fill me with life again Oh! Lord
Fill me with thy spirit again Oh! Lord
For us never to part
