THE MAN IN THE CARDBOARD BOX
We shy away from
What is it?
What is it?
We run away from
What is it?
We try to avoid thinking
Trying to stave off death
Even the very thought of
What if we have no money?
What if we have no roof over our heads?
What if our friends and family abandon us?
Left simply with our faith in God
The clothes on our back and a cardboard box
Have the doctrines of prosperity and vanity
Moved us so far
We no longer view physical death as an inevitability?
(Rapture aside)
The fear of losing
Has grown worse than losing
Let it go
Rid ourselves of it
Forgetting the past
(Except for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ)
Not looking forward to the future
(Except for the promise and reality of Salvation)
Living in the moment
Truly the moment is where we live
Yet we try to avoid the moment
I was
Or
I will be
Instead of
I am
Somewhere else
Instead of here
Is the here and now
Such a horrid space and time
That we always need to escape?
Trusting the Lord
(The Lord is my Shepherd)
No need to fear
Fear of abandonment, poverty, betrayal, pain...!
Let it go
Can we truly lose
That which we choose not to value?
Trust in Christ
Legal tender departs
Human relationships die, human institutions collapse, human justice fails
What if the banks crash
What if no human loves us?
What if we got this or that disease?
What if these things happen?
What if we’re on the streets?
Sleeping in cardboard boxes
If we surrendered our hearts to Christ
The Lord would be with us
What if we died physically?
We would be with
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
In Christ Jesus we should take comfort and not fret
Take comfort in Christ Jesus

‘If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou has set up”. Daniel 3: 17-18.
